A Growing Hospital

Yampa Valley Medical Center completes its first expansion project, grows services

Ten years after moving to its campus on Central Park Drive, Yampa Valley Medical Center has expanded by 32,000 square feet. Construction focused primarily on the Family Birth Place and Surgical Services, which have experienced steady growth since YVMC opened in 1999.

The expansion doubled the Family Birth Place, adding five new patient rooms, a family waiting room, lactation consultation room and more space for healthy babies and the Special Care Nursery. A family-friendly design, spacious rooms and nature-inspired décor emphasize enhanced comfort, privacy and support.

YVMC continues to expand other services, most notably cardiology and cancer care. With new diagnostic imaging equipment and a full-time cardiologist on the medical staff, YVMC performs full echocardiography services, nuclear stress testing and calcium scoring exams. Additionally, the Healthcare Foundation for the Yampa Valley is assisting with the purchase of a 64-slice CT scanner to upgrade the hospital’s cardiology screening capabilities.

Tai chi is among the supportive programs offered by YVMC’s expanding cancer services. “We provide very personalized care for a variety of illnesses and conditions,” Cancer Services Director Jan Fritz, RN, says. “Our goals are to manage illness, decrease pain and improve overall well-being for our patients.”
